9 Best Shakshuka in Bali (2026)

Fabian Monroe · updated 2026-08-15

Shakshuka travels well. Eggs poached in tomato and pepper, it holds its heat on a cast-iron pan for the ten minutes it takes to carry it across a garden, and it fits a place where breakfast runs until two in the afternoon. So it has ended up on brunch menus all over the south of Bali. Finding a good one is harder than that makes it sound. Half the cafes people send you to don't serve it. Half the ones that do never say so anywhere online.

What changes from kitchen to kitchen is the base. The Middle Eastern version simmers tomato, pepper and cumin until it thickens, then drops the eggs in and finishes it in the oven or over fire, and it arrives in the pan it was cooked in. The brunch version is gentler, closer to poached eggs sitting in a warm sauce, and it usually comes with sourdough on the side rather than flatbread to tear. Neither is wrong. But if you order one expecting the other you will be disappointed, so the list below says which is which.

The other thing that moves is the cheese. Feta is traditional, goat's cheese is the Bali substitution, and two kitchens here use stracciatella, which is a different dish wearing the same name. Prices run from 55,000 to a little over 100,000 rupiah, which puts it in the middle of a Bali breakfast bill, and almost everywhere serves it until the breakfast menu closes in the early afternoon.

Where you eat it depends on where you wake up. The Uluwatu end has three of the nine and they are within fifteen minutes of each other, so you can pick by mood rather than by drive. Canggu and Berawa hold four, all busy from opening, all worth arriving before nine unless you like queues. Nobody on this list takes bookings for breakfast, which is the one thing everyone assumes and nobody checks.

Nine kitchens down here actually make it. They are grouped below by how they cook it rather than by how famous they are, because that is the thing that decides whether you like your plate. Within each group they run up the coast, from the Uluwatu end to Seminyak.

The short version

The Middle Eastern versions

Two kitchens cook it the way it is cooked at home: thickened first, finished over heat, brought out in the pan. Both are on the Uluwatu side.

1. Chela – Bingin

A small open kitchen next to the yoga studio on the Bingin road, Turkish and Middle Eastern at heart, and the only place here people describe by the food rather than the coffee. Baked rather than simmered: smoky tomato, feta, herbs.

2. Shaffa GastroBazar – Balangan

A wood-fired Mediterranean kitchen, not a brunch cafe, and the dish shows it. Out of the fire in a cast-iron pan with their own sourdough, 88k. There are twenty-six places along that beach road and the rest are warungs, seafood and coffee, so this is the only Mediterranean kitchen in Balangan.

The brunch versions, south to north

Cafes that put it on a breakfast menu next to the avocado toast. Softer sauce, sourdough on the side, and the coffee is usually the reason people came.

3. Suka Uluwatu – Uluwatu

The big Australian-style kitchen on Labuansait, open half seven in the morning until ten at night, and more people have rated it than the rest of this list put together. Two poached eggs, goat's cheese, blistered cherry tomatoes, micro basil, toasted sourdough. There is a vegan one with red beans and vegan feta.

Restaurant · 4.8 from 10614 Google reviews · 7:30 AM – 10:00 PM

4. Seed Bingin – Bingin

The cheapest on this list at 55k, and the only one built on aubergine. Three eggs baked into roasted eggplant and tomato. Ten minutes up the hill from Bingin beach.

Restaurant · 4.7 from 1341 Google reviews · 7:30 AM – 11:00 PM

5. Zai Cafe – Canggu

Canggu, and the one that leans hardest on spice. The menu calls it a classic shakshuka with oriental spices. Busy from the moment it opens; the queue is the price you pay.

Restaurant · 4.7 from 2907 Google reviews · $$$$ · 8:00 AM – 11:00 PM (hours vary by day)

6. Sari Kitchen – Canggu

95k, tomato and coriander, from a kitchen that runs a community garden alongside the cafe. Canggu.

Restaurant · 4.7 from 1609 Google reviews · $$ · 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM

7. Word.Bali – Canggu

The odd one out: shakshuka with stracciatella, warm tomato, soft eggs. Nobody's grandmother made it this way and it still works. Canggu, with calorie counts printed on the menu if that matters to you.

Restaurant · 4.6 from 1239 Google reviews · $$ · Open 24 hours

8. Nüde Cafe Berawa – Berawa

The corner cafe in Berawa everyone ends up at sooner or later, open seven in the morning until eleven at night. Spiced tomato, eggs, bread. It comes out hotter than the rest of this list, so say something if you want it mild.

Cafe · 4.8 from 8626 Google reviews · $$ · 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM (hours vary by day)

Vegan and gluten free

Suka Uluwatu prints a vegan one, red beans and vegan feta, 98.2k. The kitchen below is the gluten-free option and the only green version on the island we found.

9. Coffee Cartel – Seminyak

Creamy spinach shakshuka, gluten free, in the Kerobokan branch of a place that thinks about coffee first. The green one on this list, if tomato is not your morning.

Cafe · 4.5 from 1561 Google reviews · $$ · 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM

Questions people ask about shakshuka in Bali

Where is the best shakshuka in Bali?

No single answer, and anyone who gives you one has not eaten around. Of the nine kitchens that actually put it on the menu, the two that cook it closest to the original, over fire and with their own bread, are Shaffa GastroBazar in Balangan and chela in Bingin. For the version most people have eaten, that is SUKA in Uluwatu.

How much does shakshuka cost in Bali?

Between 55,000 and about 100,000 rupiah. Seed Bingin is 55k, Shaffa 88k, Sari Kitchen 95k. SUKA lists 102.5k on its delivery menu, which usually runs above what you pay at the table.

Which places in Bali do a vegan shakshuka?

SUKA Uluwatu prints one: red beans and vegan feta instead of eggs and goat's cheese, 98.2k on the delivery menu. Several other kitchens here will leave the cheese out if you ask, but only SUKA puts it on the menu.

Where can you get shakshuka near Uluwatu and Bingin?

Three of the nine are on that side. SUKA on Jl. Labuansait, chela on Jl. Pantai Bingin, and Shaffa GastroBazar ten minutes north in Balangan. Everything else is an hour up the coast.

Do these places serve shakshuka all day?

Mostly. Bali brunch kitchens run breakfast into the afternoon and many keep the whole menu going. SUKA is open 07:30 to 22:00, nüde Berawa 07:00 to 23:00. The smaller kitchens stop breakfast around 14:00, so message ahead if you are going late.

Can you get shakshuka in Ubud?

Not from this list. Every kitchen here is on the coast, between Uluwatu and Seminyak. Ubud has Mediterranean kitchens, but none of them published a menu with the dish on it when we looked in August 2026.

What time do these kitchens start breakfast?

Most open at seven or half past. Nüde Berawa and Zai Cafe are going by seven, Suka Uluwatu at 07:30. If you want it before a dawn surf, none of them are open, and that is worth knowing before you drive.
